FuMPFest 2018

FuMPFest 2018

Special Delivery

FuMPFest 2018 also took place at the Elk Grove Holiday Inn just outside Chicago. The guest of honor was The Four Postmen, a five-piece live band from California who have a long history of hit songs on The Dr. Demento Show, including "The Chainsaw Juggler," "Let Me Make You Smile in Bed," and "Rabbit Valley." And they made Devo Honorary Postman #6.

This weekend featured another round of amazing performances by 2d6, Bill Larkin, Lauren Mayer, Mikey Mason, The Library Bards, and many more! Plus, for the first time ever, FuMPFest had a burlesque show! Late Saturday night, for a small additional fee, attendees were treated to The Better Boobie Bureau doing their Dare to be Weird burlesque tribute to "Weird Al" Yankovic.

2018 also marked the debut of The FuMP Gameshow, a trivia game for fans of The FuMP who were called on stage Price Is Right style to test their knowledge. The winners of the first two Jeopardy-like rounds faced off in a $25,000 Pyramid-like bonus round where they were paired up with celebrity guests. The winner got a free commissioned song from one of the FuMP artists!

Guests

Guest of Honor

The Four Postmen - This five-piece band from California has a long history of hit songs on the Dr. Demento Show having scored several #1 songs. This was our first time dealing with a full live band and it went great!

Performing Artists

2d6 - Nerdcore rappers 2d6 returned to wreak havoc on the stage and as usual DJ Stuck Down a Mineshaft could not be contained.

Bill Larkin - Local comedian Bill Larkin showed up for a full set this year and was one of the crowd favorites of the weekend.

Lauren Mayer - Also making her FuMPFest debut after a brief appearance in 2017, Lauren Mayer showed up to do a full set and rocked it.

Marc Gunn - Marc Gunn brought his autoharp and drinking song shenanegans to FuMPFest for the first time as well.

Matt Griffo - Local favorite Matt Griffo returned to FuMPFest for another hour of warped songs on piano and ukulele.

Mikey Mason - Professional geek-comedy-rock god Mikey Mason didn't cancel at the last minute this time, so you can cross that off your Bingo cards.

Power Salad - Power Salad put on an amazing show, as usual, and Chris also ran sound for the weekend. So the fact that everyone sounded so good is entirely Chris' doing.

Steve Goodie - Steve stopped at FuMPFest on his national house concert tour to put on a special version of Steve's Big Dumb Show!

The Better Boobie Bureau - Chicago's Buffet of Burlesque showed up to do a burlesque tribute to "Weird Al" Yankovic, hosted by Amanda Cohen.

The Library Bards - The Library Bards returned for another great set of geeky parody songs.

The Shanty Shipwreck Show - If naughty pirate shanties are your thing look no further than The Shanty Shipwreck Crew. With nine or ten people on stage it's quite the experience.

Witty Cindy - Local comedians Witty Cindy showed up—well, half of them anyway—for a late night comedy slot on Friday.

Other Events

Opening Ceremonies - Welcome to the con! Devo Spice, Luke Ski, and Insane Ian started the weekend off by debuting the new parody "The FuMP's OK." We screened the video contest entries, did all the usual stuff, and Luke Ski finished it off with "Everything's a Song (Super Rad Version)," his cover of Carrie Dahlby's song.

The Logan Awards - This was the 8th annual Logan Whitehurst Memorial Award for Excellence in Comedy Music. The event was hosted by Amanda Cohen. TV's Kyle and Linzilla kicked off the show with a performance of Logan's song "OHMYGODIMONFIRE."

The State of the FuMP - Devo Spice reviewed what The FuMP has been working on for the year, plans for the future, and Chris interrupted for the second time.

AlCon 20th Anniversary - Amanda Cohen and some special guests relived the convention in 1998 where many of us met for the first time.

Q&A with The Four Postmen - Devo Spice interviewed The Four Postmen about their music and career and was named Honorary Postman #6.

The FuMP Game Show - Luke Ski hosted this Jeopardy-like game show featuring contestants from the audience. The winners of each round faced off against each other in a $25,000 Pyramid-like bonus round. Congratulations to our winner, Mr. Arthur!

The FuMP Showcase - A chance for any other artists in attendance to take the stage. This year we had performances by Insane Ian, The Courtesan and the Cabin Boy, Brett Glass, TV's Kyle and Linzilla, Carrie Dahlby, and the great Luke Ski!

Dementia Smackdown Wrestling - Commissioner JP Tuesday and Duke Flyboy DuJour hosted the latest installment of the virtual wrestling event featuring all the performing acts.

Dumb Parody Ideas - A rapid-fire event where contestants perform snippets of dumb parodies they came up with. This year the winner was NOT the Library Bards, for once!

Closing Ceremonies - All good things must come to an end. We closed out this year's event with a performance of "Tuesday's Song Is Not Yet Posted" by Insane Ian.
